After a six year hiatus, Shakespeare will return to the Court Street Square in downtown San Bernardino this summer when a new theater ensemble called The Fictitious Theater Company (FTC) will present the Bard's Much Ado About Nothing on August 3,4,6.10,11,13,17,18 and 20 at 8:30 p.m. General admission is $ 12 and $8 for seniors. This production will be presented outdoors at Court Street Square at the southeast corner of Court and E Streets.
The director is Wendi Hastings, managing director Molly Jasper, technical director Rob Foley, who also plays Don Pedro, artist director Nathan Gross, who also plays Benedick, costume designer Mieke Bahmer, and sound designer Heatherly Stephens who will play Beatrice. Stephens is a part time theatre instructor at Riverside Community College, Moreno Valley and Riverside campuses.
Much Ado explores the consequences of what noting (eavesdropping) can cause to the human psyche, the family, friendships and society at large albeit in a raucous, witty and satirical way. The ways of love are also explored in two contrasting, yet ultimately complimentary and engaging ways via the romantic love between Claudio (Samir Roberts) and Hero (Morgan Stewart) and the rapier exchanges of wit between reluctant lovers Beatrice and Benedick. The evil machinations of Don Pedro's illegitimate brother, Don John (Juan Erquiaga) temporarily disturbs the peace and tranquility of Leonato's (Mike Cluff), father of Hero, house until the bumbling, oblivious Dogberry (Andreu Hastings) and Verges (Ruby Cordova) unwittingly and fortuitous help to put things right. Others in the cast include Ryan Berry (Borachio), Margaret (Kathryn Hall) and Conrad (Apollo Blackwood).
